Three Stores in One: Undrest Opens on Melrose

Undrest is stretching out its limbs and growing new branches. The brand’s new store on Melrose Ave. (formerly on Robertson Blvd.) is like three mini shops under one roof: the original Undrest lingerie and loungewear; Undrest By The Sea swim and resort clothing and the new Undrest Artifacts line of leather bags.

Last time I stopped in, the shoppers were flipping out over designer Maria Navales’ eye for vintage furniture as much as the clothing. The rich wood wardrobe closet, rustic display tables, gilded glass cases and circular racking systems were scavenged from flea markets and antique stores around Los Angeles and from her travels around Europe.

Separate yet connected, each shop displays one of the Undrest divisions as well as other brands plucked by Navales that are siblings in the Undrest sensibility. In Undrest By The Sea, luxe bohemian jewelry is draped over conch shells. Top shelf dominatrix lingerie by Bordelle and tarty heels by Jerome Rousseau hang in the Undrest Los Angeles lingerie shop. And in the new Artifacts store, vintage Chanel bags and French riding boots share the walls with the new fringe leather bags and travel coffee table picture books. All in all, there’s something for the bedroom, the coastal vacation and hip city life.
