It's Carine's World

Carine Roitfeld in Rick Owens

In Carine Roitfeld’s “World” everyone is as polished and outstandingly beautiful as a Barney’s window display mannequin, literally. The ex-editrix of French Vogue, Roitfeld was the guest editor and stylist for the Fall 2011 Barney’s campaign and Wow. You must be This Fabulous to ride this ride.

The cast of characters in the campaign shot by Mario Sorrenti in Paris and New York varies from models (Naomi Campbell in Fendi and Carolyn Murphy in Gianvito Rossi) to the vague and fuzzy classifications of style “muses” and famous people (Theodora Richards wearing Rodarte;principal ballet dancer Mademoiselle Marie Agnes Gillot in Ann Demeulemeester and Marie-Amélie Sauvé in Balenciaga).

Its an interesting look at how retail stores are self-publishing more and more content, asserting their power as editors and driving traffic to their websites. Here's a sampling and see the whole photo story at The Window side of the Barney's website. And videos of Mario Sorrenti following Roitfeld's sharp shoulders and hourglass waist around Paris, saying things like this in a French accent, “The people are more important than the clothes. The clothes can be a nice envelope, but what’s more important is the letter inside the envelope.”
