COLLABORATION

Smythe and Roots Collaboration

Canadian brands Smythe and the design team behind Roots Leather partnered up on a novelty piece paying homage to a throwback jacket. In celebration of Roots’ 40th Anniversary, the two brands collaborated to produce the ‘Smythe Bomber by Roots.’ They re-issued a style from Smythe’s 2008 Fall collection and updated it in Roots’ Bruschetta leather.

Smythe launched in 2004, establishing its brand with its tailored and structured jackets and coats, created with a menswear sensibility. Roots lifestyle brand was initiated in 1973, known for its fine leather goods, including footwear and accessories. It also carries both men and women active athleticwear and has a home décor collection. Since its inception with its Toronto store, the brand has grown with currently more than 120 retail locations in Canada and the United States and more than 40 in Asia.

The Roots design group, headed by Design Director Diane Bald and Vice President of Leather Product Development and Manufacturing, Karl Kowalewski focused their efforts on this limited edition leather jacket which will be available starting September 7.

The two teams started working on the re-design late last year, where it was hand-crafted at the Roots Genuine Leather Factory located in Toronto, Canada.

“Owning our first Roots leather jacket was a monumental fashion moment for both of us,” Smythe designer Andrea Lenczner said. “It has been a design dream come true to work with Diane and the team at Roots to mark such this historic anniversary,” designer Christie Smythe said.

The ‘Smythe Bomber by Roots’ will retail for $988.00 and will be available exclusively at select Roots stores in Canada, the newly opened Roots retail store in Venice Beach, Calif- as online at www.roots.com.
