Fashion Tech In The House at TechDay Los Angeles

More than 200 tech start-ups set up physical shops at the Penthouse for California Market Center, a downtown Los Angeles showroom building, on June 18 for TechDay Los Angeles. We dropped by to check out the handful of fashion and beauty tech startups, and listened to the latest in e-business ideas.

Outside of fashion tech startups, delivery services seemed to be in vogue at TechDay Los Angeles. Los Angeles company Soothe sends masseuses on outcalls. Bloom That delivered flowers. HopSkipDrive is a carpooling service that pitches itself as an Uber for kids.

On the fashion side, Psassy is a fashion social network which "provides the chic and fabulous a venue to show off their creative flair and style, and opportunity to get their modeling mojo on," according to a company statement. Ecohabitude is a marketplace to shop and sell green, sustainable and fair label clothes and goods, and it runs an office in San Francisco. Pinkfluence is a Los Angeles area online gift registry for women. MeUndies, an underwear and basics brand with a heavy online presence, exhibited its bloomers at TechDay Los Angeles. Combatant Gentlemen of Irvine, Calif., also exhibited at TechDay. It sells men’s suits, shirting and ties at a low retail price point. The entry retail price points for suits is $160. Combatant Gentleman owns its supply chain, which ranges from from cotton farms in India and sheep farms in Italy. NailSnaps is a Los Angeles start-up that minted an app to turn personal photos into custom nail wraps and nail art, said Angel Anderson, the chief executive officer and co-founder.

NailSnaps announced on June 17 a partnership with Japanese direct marketing company Felissimo to introduce custom nail art to Asia. The tech startup wanted to see who else it could partner with at TechDay. “There are so many fashion and tech startups here,” Anderson said.
